Back by strong demand....
Welcome all parents and children to the start of the Downtown Soccer League 2010 Fall season. This is Ian Sorkin, and I am just one of the many parents who will be coaching your children this season. Back by popular demand, the other coaches will be Randy Yanker, Vincent Parisot, and Howard Sadowsky. That said, I do press all parents who care to have any kind of role to certainly step up as the more who get involved, I believe the more the children will enjoy.
As stated in an email which has gone out to the team prior, our practices will be held Wednesdays between 5:15pm and 6:00pm on a spot which I will specify on the field for weekly use. The league in efforts to reduce any confusiion, has dedicated Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6pm as only Division 7‘s time, so there will be much less distraction. At practices, I ask that at some ponit either the parent or nanny always lets me know which child they are responsible for. Safety is an important issue with me and any child who does not have someone to escort them off the field will stay with me until parent or caregiver picks them up.
All games and practices require the following: cleats, shin pads, water bottle or something to drink, and if you have one bring a soccer ball. As the children are getting a little older I have more drills which will require more touches on the ball during practice, so we could stand to benefit from more then 4 balls.
Games, which also require shin pads and cleats, will be held on Saturday‘s at either 10am or 11am. Again, this is a positive now for all as we will be well brought up to speed on field usage post rain by the start of our games. The season will be a ten game season with one game being played on a week day.
As always, come game day it is always nice to have someone recommend snacks for the children. So there is some food for thought for everyone, no pun intended. I also want to point out that our sponsor again is Mission Capital, so thank you to them and we will hope to make you proud.
My final words will be the same as last year. This league to me and hopefully to all of you is about community, our children, and enjoyable activities that are a part of all our lives. Winning and loosing is secondary if at that to the enjoyment that I hope all of our children have in being part of a team with their friends. And if last year is indicative to this year, I believe they will all have a wonderful experience.
My best
Ian B. Sorkin
